General:

What do we mean by general? We mean common issues that affect most people at one time or an-other. Good posture is the position in which the effects of gravity allow for the least amount of stress and tension on our spine and joints. In poor posture, certain muscles tighten up and shorten, while others lengthen and become weak, changing how our body reacts to stress. When we deviate from this ideal position because of long days seated, bad sleep habits, one-sided sports, or carrying heavy backpacks, to name a few, it may lead to pain, injury, or other health problems. Fortunately, we are masters of postural assessment, treatment, and reconditioning!

Head and neck:

Poor posture is a leading cause of head and neck pain, as is trauma and stress. Leaning in towards our laptops, looking down at our phones for hours, poor sleep positions and old pillows are common instigators. With a proper assessment, the right ergonomic advice, and our hands on treatment and rehabilitation, the issues below are treatable and preventable.

Head and neck issues may include:

   Tension headaches
   Occipital headaches
   Migraines,
   Post- concussion syndrome
   Neck pain
TMJ pain (Jaw pain) and disfunction
   Whiplash injuries
   Torticollis
   Disc herniations
   Nerve impingements and entrapments
   Degenerative disc disease
   Forward head posture

Upper body:

Traveling a little below the neck now, we find some common upper back, shoulder, and arm issues. Most people do not realize that limitations in our neck and upper back are often the precursors to the pain in our shoulders, elbows, and wrists. Whether it be from carrying three grocery bags on one arm or typing/clicking the computer mouse all day, it’s not surprising that we might wake up unable to straighten our elbow!

Athletic and non-athletic lifestyles alike can promote injury, inflammation, or lack of mobility from the shoulders down, which is why we assess and treat the entire upper chain of the body, tackling the root of the problem and preventing future recurrences.

Upper body issues may include:

Tendonitis and bursitis of shoulder and elbow
   Rotator cuff injuries
   Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
   Tennis elbow
   Golfer’s elbow
   Sprains and strains
   Brachial plexus injuries
   Carpal tunnel and tenosynovitis

Lower back:

Who has not had an episode of low back pain? Our poor lumbar spine is often the scapegoat for other areas of the body that are not working efficiently, or busy compensating for poor posture, creating a chain reaction of issues that lead us to lock up bending to tie our shoe. The muscular pain and tension of these episodes are easily treatable, but the re-education and strengthening of the appropriate muscle groups and chains are the key to successful lower back recovery.

Lower back issues may include:

   Lumbar sprains and strains
   Disc herniations
   Sciatica
   Femoral nerve entrapments
   Muscle spasms
   Sacro-iliac dysfunctions
   Scoliosis related issues
   Chronic blowback pain

Hips and Knees:

Hip pain, knee pain and low back disfunction are closely related and often influence each other. As we spend most of our days seated on hard chairs and soft couches, crossing our legs, shifting from side to side when standing or sleeping on a worn-out mattresses, our hips can cause us all manners of issues. Addressing the function of the pelvis and the whole lower body chain is the best way to deal with most hip and knee issues, including all those below. The proper treatment and rehabilitation will get you back to work and play.

Hip and knee issues may include:

   Bursitis and tendinitis
   Muscle imbalances
   Hip replacements
   Knee strains and sprains
   ACL and meniscus tears
   Chondromalacia patella
   Jumper's knee
   Patello-femoral syndrome
   Osgood-Schlatter disease

Ankles and feet:

Last but not least, we’ve made it from head to toe! Here we have our ankles and feet. We often tend to dismiss and ignore sore feet and lingering ankle pain, but these smaller parts of our body support our entire body weight all day long and are a crucial aspect of healthy biomechanics, that influence the health of all the joints above. Not only can an ankle or foot injury itself be painful, but given the amount we are on our feet, it can be a difficult recovery process . Your feet are your foundation, and it is essential to ensure they are functioning properly to keep the rest of you up and running.

Ankle and feet issues may include:

   Ankle sprains and strains
   Tendinitis
   Achilles tendinitis
   Foot pain
   Heel spur tendinitis
   Plantar fasciitis
